Hotchkiss boys best in Delta

At Friday's four-team Delta Twilight track and field meet, Hotchkiss scored 83 points and won six events to win the meet. Delta was second with 76 points, Cedaredge third with 60, and Olathe finished fourth with 27.

Hotchkiss Boys

The Hotchkiss boys won five events and had 17 top-three finishes at Delta.

Elijah Patrick won the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 5.5 inches. In high jump, Patrick and teammate Jacob Stucker took first and second, respectively with Patrick clearing 6-2 for the win.

Sam Rodriguez won the 800 in 2:08.31, and took third in the 400. Jace Peebles won the 110 hurdles in 17.70, Colton Peebles took silver in the 200 (25.17), and Nick Jung finished third in the 1600. Cochran also finished third in the 800 (2:11.9), and Oliver Mendoza took third in the long jump (18-3.25).

In relays, Jung, Myles Zoutte, Will Ela and Saul Cortez placed second in the 3200m relay (9:45.75); George Arroyo, Robert Cochran, Oliver Mendoza and Jace Peebles placed third in the 400 relay; Arroyo, Cesar Camacho, Cortez and Malykai Klaseen placed third in the 800 relay; and Rodriguez, Zoutte, Klaseen and Cortez finished third in the 1600 relay.

In throwing events, Darrin Young won the shot put with a throw of 46-5.5 and placed second in discus with a throw of 125-2. Nolan Egging placed third.

Delta Boys

The Delta boys won seven events on their home turf. Among the top placers, Hezekiah Huff won the 200-meter dash in 24.27, Jacob Wear won the 400 in 52.71, John Ames finished the 1600 in 4:56.11 for the win, Logan Freed cleared the 300 hurdles in 43.92 for the win, and Cameron Schaal threw the discus 128 feet, 2 inches for the win.

In relays, the 1600-meter team of Ames, Wear, Huff and Ed doh Htoo won with a time of 8:56.34; and the 3200 team of Andrew Toole, Jack Jones, Carson Roithmayr and Enrique Gonzalez won in 3:42.54.

Winning silver were Dah Wah in the long jump (18-4.25), Cameron Schaal in the shot put (40-2), and Jesse Phillips in the 110 hurdles. Those Panthers winning bronze were Wah in the 100-meter dash (12.43), Kole Granger in the 200m (25.75), Colton Galvin in the 300m hurdles (50.60), Kula Moo in the triple jump (36-0), and Logan Church in the shot put (39-4).

Cedaredge Boys

Cedaredge, which split the weekend in Delta and at Saturday's Western State Invitational at Gunnison, enjoyed a strong showing Friday. Wyatt Camp won the 100 in 12.15, the 800m relay team took first with a time of 1:34.8, and Sawyer Carey soared 19 feet, one-half inch to win the long jump.

Josh Deal's mark of 35-5 in the triple jump garnered a silver medal. Other silver medalists for Cedaredge include Ty Grant in the 400 (52.97), Tevin Keller in the 800 (2:11.09), Isaac Vader in the 1600 (5:25.42), Blake Gash in the 300 hurdles (48.09), and the 400 relay and 3200 relay teams.

Olathe Boys

The Olathe boys swept the 3200-meter run, led by Jonathan Munger's winning time of 11:03.82. Layton McLaughlin placed second (11:12.65), and Alecxis Hernandez finished third (11:30.27).

The Pirates also won the 400-meter relay in 45.95, and the 800 relay team took silver with a time of 1:36.59. The 3200m relay team placed third (9:17.19).
