Hotchkiss senior Kaiya Firor just keeps on winning.

At the Class 2A/1A Western Slope/San Juan league track meet at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction, Firor won all-conference first-team in the 200m dash with a time of 26.09 seconds, and in the 300m hurdles in 44.57.

Firor also won silver in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.83. Ranked first in Class 2A state rankings, Firor raced against No. 1 ranked 1A hurdler, Faith Novess of De Beque. A two-time state champion in the 300m hurdles, Firor said she didn't face a lot of competition in hurdles this season.

"I came out (of the blocks) a whole lot faster than I usually do," said Firor. "I usually take four steps in between hurdles, and I was taking three and a half." The change caused her to clip the second hurdle and stumble, but Firor managed to recover without going outside of her lane. "I don't know how," said Firor, who cleared the remaining hurdles and finished just under a second behind Novess.

Hotchkiss finished fifth with 79 points. The 800m relay team of Adair Ela, Shay Glaser, Elsie Vasquez and Firor won the league title with a time of 1:49.16.
