The board of education of Delta County Joint School District #50 is urging Hotchkiss voters to say no to the three marijuana questions on the municipal ballot.
"The board of education desires to make its position on the matter clear," states a resolution adopted unanimously March 17.
"Studies have shown that the use of marijuana by children and youths will have permanent negative consequences for them," the resolution states. "The board of education is of the opinion that making marijuana more available to adults will have as a consequence more availability for children and youths.
"Now, therefore, be it resolved that the citizens of the Town of Hotchkiss are strongly urged to vote NO on the issue of allowing marijuana sales in the town."
A similar resolution opposing marijuana sales in Paonia was adopted last year.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
