The Kiwanis Club of Delta is holding its eighth annual poker tournament at Bill Heddles Recreation Center on Saturday, March 16. Registration is at 4 p.m. with tournament play beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until approximately 8 p.m.
The tournament is a partnership between the Kiwanis Club and Western Slope Poker Tour LLC, owned and operated by Mel Lutz and Johnny Hicks. Approximately $1,000 worth of prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening, and the Key Club from Delta High School will be serving food at a nominal cost. Cold beer will be provided for the evening fun. Businesses can sponsor a table for $200 which allows all their employees/guests to receive their first $100 in poker chips for free. Interested sponsors or players can contact Clay Speas at 970-361-2950 to sponsor a table or pre-register for a spot at a table.
Some of the proceeds from this year's tournament will be used to provide summer reading opportunities in Delta County. Kiwanis is joining forces with Delta County Libraries to offer events, special activities, books and T-shirts for over 800 kids in the county. The remainder of the funds raised will be used to provide youth programs and activities in Delta County, including college scholarships, sponsorships for Key Club members to attend leadership conferences, and grants to numerous youth-related activities in the community.
