As area businesses wind down 2018 and begin planning for a successful 2019, the Town of Cedaredge would like to remind everyone that it is time to apply for or renew your 2019 business license.
Any company conducting any sort of business transaction within town limits -- regardless of where your business is physically located -- is required to be licensed per Cedaredge municipal code. This includes door-to-door sales like Avon or Schwans, MLM companies like Pampered Chef or doTerra, and those businesses not located in town but which do business here on a regular basis, such as travelling auto glass repairs, plumbers, electricians and the like. Nonprofits, charitable or religious organizations operating within town are also required to be licensed per town code.
The fee to register is nominal, just $25 for businesses and free for nonprofits, and the fee is not meant to be a revenue generator. "The license is a tool to help ensure businesses are reporting their sales tax information to the state, so that the town is not losing critical revenue that is reinvested in the community in the form of economic development and marketing, streets maintenance, infrastructure improvements and public safety," explained Kami Collins, the economic development coordinator for Cedaredge. Additionally, the licensing procedure helps Collins and partner organizations like the chamber more aware of what resources are available in town, so that the entities can better help market and promote the local business community.
After a business has registered and paid the fee, the business is listed on the town's website, www.CedaredgeColorado.com, in the Business Directory, assisting businesses in their marketing and outreach to the many people who visit the town's website.
Businesses are required to license by Jan. 31, 2019. The license registration form is available online at www.CedaredgeColorado.com under the "Doing Business" tab, or in person at Town Hall, 235 W. Main Street. Collins is also available at 856-3123, extension 112, or firstname.lastname@example.org for an email application or for more information on the licensing process.
