William Joseph "Jody" Retherford Jr. of Perkins/Stillwater, Okla., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at his home. He was 73.
Graveside services were held Oct. 11 at Parkland Cemetery in Parkland, Okla.
Mr. Retherford was born in Tulare, Calif., Oct. 22, 1941, to William and Wilma (Blake) Retherford Sr. He grew up in many areas of California.
He served in the U.S. Army for six years.
He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in 1962.
He married Sheryl Retherford on Dec. 22, 1964, in Delta. They lived in Sacramento, Calif., before moving to Olathe where he worked as a saw filer for sawmills. They moved to Redding, Calif., for a few years before moving to Perkins, Okla., in 2005.
Mr. Retherford enjoyed woodworking, playing solitaire, singing at weddings and funerals, and recording Southern Gospel music.
He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Yale, Okla.
After the death of his wife in 2014, he married Sue Crowley on Aug. 29, 2015, in Perkins.
Mr. Retherford is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Jeannie (Tim) Carner of Tryon, Okla., Bobby (Mary) of Grand Junction, Kellie (Gary) Bellew and Joe (Frankie) Retherford, all of Perkins, Okla., and Carl (Teshea) Retherford of Tulsa, Okla.; brothers, David Retherford of Henryetta, Okla., and Larry Retherford of Tahlequah, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheryl Retherford; and brothers, Ronnie and Carl Retherford.
Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Okla., handled the arrangements.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
