Kami Collins has been hired as the new executive director of the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce. Former director Lisa Martinez resigned in mid-June and Collins began her new position July 1.
"We are excited to have Kami come on board as our executive director to work with our membership and our board," said chamber board president Nick Streza. "Her knowledge, experience and sense of community involvement is the perfect match for our optimistic future."
Collins formerly served as the director of the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce for two years. "I'm looking forward to jumping back into the chamber world again," she said. "I missed working with Delta area businesses and events, and I'm excited to forge relationships with the businesses in the Surface Creek Valley."
Collins said she plans to spend the next several months acquainting herself with both members and non-members of the chamber. "I want to hear from the businesses firsthand about what's working and what could use some improvement," she said. From there, working with the board of directors, currently under the leadership of Nick Streza from DeerCreek Village Realty, goals will be developed to further enhance chamber programs and events in order to better benefit its members and the business community as a whole. Neither Collins nor the board are opposed to creating new events or new networking events, "but we really want to focus foremost on providing the best service we can to our members," Collins said. "That means taking a good look at what we're currently doing and improving there first."
She said she also plans to get reconnected with all of the Delta County chambers so she can better network Cedaredge-area events and businesses on a countywide scale. Currently, staff and directors from the county chambers meet regularly throughout the year to network with one another.
Right now, Collins is working alongside board members to plan this year's AppleFest, Oct. 7-8, as well as assisting with the Celebrate Cedaredge events and the First Friday Art Walks. "Cedaredge has a ton of great events going on, and I'm looking forward to getting involved and helping," she said. For all of the events, more information can be found on the chamber's website at www.CedaredgeChamber.com or on Facebook at Cedaredge Chamber. If you'd like to be included on the chamber's biweekly events email newsletter, please contact Collins at email@example.com or at 856-6961.Collins invites people to visit with her at the office or at your place of business. "Call me -- I'd love to chat with you!" she said.
In addition to her work for the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce, you'll likely see Collins out and about at several different functions. She is a board member for the Abraham Connection Homeless Shelter and volunteers for Delta County Girl Scouts as a troop leader and for Delta County Young Life as a committee member. She also reports part time for the Delta County Independent. She lives in Delta with her husband, Allan, and their daughter, Addison.
