Ken died Nov. 26, 2016, at Delta County Memorial Hospital of complications from colon cancer. He was 59.
Ken was born in Harrison, Ark., on Feb. 12, 1957, to Ralph and Mildred Miller. He was the eighth of 11 children. He moved with his family to Iowa, Texas and finally settled in Delta in 1969. He graduated from Delta High School in 1975. As a teenager Ken busted tires at the Miller True Value hardware store.
Ken was married to Gertrude Heinze on July 2, 1978, and they had two daughters, April and Angie. Ken ran the Cotton Dairy and raised his girls there. Ken and Gertie later divorced.
Ken married Cheri Anderson in 1999 and they later divorced.
Ken spent a short period of time working at the coal mine. He also drove a semi truck for a while, hauling cattle, etc. He did a short stint on the oil rigs, working nights. Ken spent about 10 years in commercial construction, doing tenant finish for businesses all over the USA.
In 2001 Ken was playing cribbage online and kept getting beat by a lovely lady in England who called herself Jenn. After months of that he decided he just had to meet "Jenn" and on St. Valentine's Day 2002, they finally met in San Francisco. After three years of back and forth to England Jenn was finally able to get her visa and returned to the United States for good. On April 7, 2005, Ken and Jenn were married. They loved spending time at their home above Cedaredge, raising animals, gardening and enjoying the beautiful mountain view. Ken developed a strong interest in nutrition and loved learning about it.
Together they owned and operated the Clean As A Whistle carpet cleaning business, and he continued to work until the week before his death.
Ken is survived by his wife Jenn (Lesley Ann) Miller, and daughters April (Stanton) Walker of Cedaredge and Angela (Dean) Schmid of Somerset, granddaughter Taylor (Jade) Bissel and great-granddaughter Oaklee of Delta and grandson Kaleb of Cedaredge. Ken has two stepsons, their wives and six grandchildren in England.
Ken is survived by his mother, Mildred Miller (94) of Cory; sisters, Janet (Carron) Hickie, Iowa, Carol (Jim) Thompson, Ohio, Marie (Gary) Williams, Springfield, Mo., Dorothy (Gary) Wear, Delta, Diana (Jim) Thuma, Grand Junction, Mary Roberts, Sherman, Texas; brothers, Floyd (Carol) Miller, Delta, and Don (Jen) Miller, Delta. Ken is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Miller; brother, Charles Miller; sister, Juanita Robinson; and his brother-in-law, Garry Roberts.
Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1250 Pioneer Road in Delta at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.
The Hotchkiss-Crawford Historial Society will host its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2:00 at the Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss. There will be music, refreshments and a guest speaker, Robert Sibernagel. He is well known in the area as he writes regional history columns for The Daily Sentinel. He was formerly the editorial page editor for that paper for 19 years.
