At the April 23 board meeting, Paonia trustees voted, 4-1, to authorize town administrator Ken Knight to formally apply with Delta County for annexation of certain sections of county road contiguous with existing town boundaries. Those sections include Stahl Road from Samuel Wade Road to Highway 133, Samuel Wade Road from Highway 133 to the Samuel Wade Bridge, Price and Clock roads, Grand Avenue to the Highway 187 bridge, and unincorporated sections of Colorado Avenue.
A request to de-annex a parcel of land on the outskirts of the city was denied by Delta City Council Nov. 20.
The parcel is one of three annexed to the city in 2006 at the request of property owner Jack Petrucelli. He anticipated a large, 260-lot subdivision known as Riverwalk to be built off 1600 Road, across from the Emerald Hills subdivision.
An Arkansas family received a painful lesson on Delta County development regs last week when they petitioned the Town of Hotchkiss to de-annex their property, allowing them to build three homes without having to abide by the town's subdivision specifications. Trustees replied emphatically "no can do."
On a split vote, Delta City Council approved a disconnection from the city late last year. With a similar request before them June 6 -- and fearing even more applications -- members unanimously denied a de-annexation request from a neighboring property owner.
The City of Delta has agreed to the deannexation of a parcel of land on the edge of the city in North Delta. The property on 1400 Lane is owned by Kevin W. and Teresa Gines.
