The Hotchkiss Community Chamber of Commerce and residents of the community welcomed the return of the Colorado Grand to the community last week.
The Colorado Grand® is an annual charity tour for 1960 and earlier sports and race cars of distinction.
Get ready for the Colorado Grand because a host of classic automobiles are headed our way. As many as 85 vehicles will pass through Delta County on the final leg of their multiple-day 1,000-mile route through the Rocky Mountains.
Every fall for more than 30 years, classic car enthusiasts from around the world have taken to the highways and byways of Colorado to enjoy the beautiful fall colors for the Colorado Grand. The charity event pairs drivers with classic cars for a multi-day, 1,000 mile route that includes Delta County.
Several Western Slope car clubs were well represented at the 10th annual Mesquite Motor Mania in Mesquite, Nev., on Martin Luther King weekend, Jan. 12-14. Twelve members and their wives representing the Delta Street Rodders, Ute Trails Car Club, Ramblin' Relics and Black Canyon Classics travelled to Mesquite for a weekend of fun and sun.
In mid-November a Warner Brothers movie will be released which co-stars a 1924 Dodge Brothers four-door touring car that formerly traveled the streets and roads of Delta and surrounding countryside.
The movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," is a new Harry Potter spin-off and stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne.
It was like a family reunion at the Delta County Fairgrounds last Friday when the Colorado Grand Auto Tour rolled through Hotchkiss for the 27th time.
"Hey, the tour's great," community liason Eddie O'Brien said shortly after arriving on the scene in a cherry red 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra.
