At the request of council member Kevin Carlson, the council released the $300 budgeted for Delta High School grad night festivities, and agreed in principle to donate $200 to each of the Destination Imagination teams headed to globals later this month. Since the expenditure was not listed in the agenda, city attorney David McConaughy suggested the matter be tabled until a special meeting May 8.
Two Destination Imagination teams are working hard to raise money to travel to global competition in Knoxville, Tenn., May 23-26.
The Global Finals -- the world's largest celebration of student creativity -- features more than 1,400 of the top-scoring DI teams from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries.
Creativity reigned supreme at the Destination Imagination regional tournament at CMU March 10.
The event drew 32 teams, including 14 from Delta County.
Destination Imagination is preparing Colorado's kids to be the innovators of the future by combining the arts, sciences, and technology with creativity, teamwork and problem solving.
Teams competed in regional competition in early April to qualify for state competition in Denver this weekend.
