For any veteran in the Hotchkiss, Crawford, and Paonia area unable to get to Delta to see the Vietnam Memorial Wall June 6-9, the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge 1807 will provide transportation.
The deadline is Nov. 15 to apply for the 2019 Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
Sure and begorrah, a little bit of Ireland came to Delta, as 103 seniors enjoyed a free St. Patrick's holiday meal on Thursday, March 15, at the Delta Senior Center (DSC). The meal was the first this year sponsored by the Delta Elks Lodge #1235, through a grant from the Grand Lodge, part of the Elks National Foundation.
On Feb. 16, 1867, Charles Vivian and a handful of friends established the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in New York City.
The 150th anniversary of that date has been proclaimed Elks Day in the City of Delta and in cities and towns across the nation.
The Delta Elks Lodge hosted a "Noon Year's Eve Extravaganza" for youth on Sunday, Dec. 31. Crystal Herrera, the event coordinator, said the event was funded by The Beacon Grant, a grant for drug awareness.
Delta Elks Lodge is pleased to present "A Salute to our Veterans" Saturday, Nov. 11. The day will start with a free lunch for all veterans, their spouses and those currently serving our country from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.

Boy Scout Troops 475, 481 and 485 take turns posting flags along Main Street and Highway 92 for major holidays beginning with Mother's Day in May and ending with Veterans Day in November.
For the third year in a row, a Delta student has placed first in the state drug awareness poster contest sponsored by Delta Elks Lodge #1235.
Leeland Ball, a fifth grader at Lincoln Elementary School, won a 10-inch tablet from the Colorado Elks Association.
Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 held its annual "Hoop Shoot" free throw contest on Jan. 17, at Hotchkiss High School. The Hoop Shoot program is the largest and most visible of the many youth activities sponsored by Elks lodges.
A wonderful holiday treat was enjoyed by 86 seniors on Tuesday, Dec. 8, as the Delta Elks Lodge No. 1235 sponsored the third and final special meal this year at the Delta Senior Center, 247 Meeker Street.
Through a grant from the Grand Lodge, part of the Elks National Foundation, this was the second year the Delta Elks sponsored sumptuous meals, at no charge, for senior citizens in the Delta area.
The Hotchkiss Elks Lodge has put two international grants to good use in the community.
Beverly Clemmer reports that the $2,000 Gratitude Grant was distributed between three local organizations: S & B Quilting received $400 for its veterans quilt project; $300 to North Fork Soccer; and $1,300 to the North Fork Ambulance Association.
