Special district approved for ambulance; memberships continue

On Nov. 6, voters overwhelmingly approved the establishment of a special district for the North Fork Ambulance. Just over 83 percent of Paonia, Hotchkiss and Crawford area voters said "yes" to the special district. By a smaller, yet still very favorable margin, a mill levy of 5.750 was established to fund the special district.

The North Fork Ambulance finds itself at a crossroads. With only about a third of the residents actually supporting the ambulance service through membership, the organization's board views the funding situation as unsustainable.

This year NFA is asking voters in the North Fork to approve a ballot measure, 7E, to form a special taxing district to provide a steady and sustainable source of revenue through property tax.

Commissioners adopt North Fork Ambulance District service plan

Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes passed a Resolution to adopt the North Fork Ambulance District Service Plan at their June 25 meeting.

North Fork Ambulance District (NFAD) will serve in three counties: Delta, Montrose and Gunnison. Montrose County has adopted the service plan and Gunnison County is expected to adopt the service plan this week.

Public hearing scheduled

A public hearing will be held Monday, June 25, at 1:30 p.m. to consider a proposal for the North Fork Ambulance Health Service District. If the service plan is approved by the Delta County Commissioners, the question of organization of the North Fork Ambulance Health District will be presented to voters in the November election.

Crawford approves lease for ambulance

On March 7, the Town of Crawford approved a lease agreement with the North Fork Ambulance Association on the space it uses at the town's maintenance building.

During discussion at its February work session, Mayor Wanda Gofforth explained the town and the association have had an informal agreement to share space.

NFA surveys residents about emergency medical care

Holiday Marketplace successfully funds AEDs

North Fork Ambulance (NFA) sponsored a Holiday Marketplace Saturday, Nov. 18, with the proceeds from lunch and a basket drawing going toward the district's automated external defibrillator (AED) project.

The purpose of the project is to increase the chances of survival for people who experience a sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the North Fork Valley.
