By all accounts, the Surface Creek Saddle Club had a successful summer this year. Competition was keen in the 2018 Saddle and Buckle Series gymkhana.
After nine weeks of horse and rider contests, the Surface Creek Saddle Club hosted the final event in the 2018 Saddle and Buckle Series gymkhana on August 1. The final standings in the all-ages competition include scores for seventy-five participants ranging in age from as young as two years old all the way to adults in their sixties.
The dirt surface of a rodeo ground should never be hard-packed. A so-called "hard pan" surface is dangerous for horses and riders alike.
Melinda Katchur, the Surface Creek Saddle Club's secretary/treasurer, recently gave a tour of the arena grounds. Much work has already been completed to prepare for the club's summer gymkhana series.
The Surface Creek Saddle Club will again host a gymkhana series this year at the arena located at 24224 Grand Mesa Drive in Cedaredge on every Wednesday evening from May 31 to Aug. 2.
