Just after midnight on Oct. 16, officers from the Delta Police Department arrested Nathaniel Michael Hammond, 24, of Montrose. He was jailed after officers found approximately 74.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine and items relating to the distribution of drugs in his possession.
Cedaredge residents passing by the Pioneer Town parking lot last Thursday may have noticed the presence of several law enforcement vehicles with lights flashing. On the afternoon of Oct. 19, the Cedaredge Police Department posted the following explanation on its Facebook page:
An Oct. 3 traffic stop resulted in the seizure of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and heroin.
According to Delta County Undersheriff Mark Taylor, a sheriff's deputy stopped a 2014 Toyota Tundra in the parking lot of 1410 Valley View Drive, Delta, after observing the driver make several traffic violations.
On Thursday, Sept. 28, the Delta County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of Delta Police Department, Montrose Sheriff's Office K-9 unit and a member of Colorado Bureau of Investigation, conducted directed patrols in various areas of unincorporated Delta County. This operation was an effort to identify and locate known drug offenders in the area.
On Aug. 15, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a residence on 1600 Road to assist Child Protective Services with the removal of children from the home. The response resulted in the Delta Police Department seeking a search warrant on the residence.
On May 18, officers of the Delta Police Department, with the assistance from the Delta County Sheriff's Office and Montrose County Sheriff's Office, conducted a search warrant at 960 Crawford Avenue, Delta. The warrant was related to drugs, drug use and possession, drug manufacturing and distribution, firearms, cell phones and any other items which may be illegal, stolen or otherwise implicating in criminal activity.
On Jan. 19, officers of the Delta Police Department in conjunction with officers from multiple other agencies to include the Delta County Sheriff's Office, the Montrose County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Agency, completed a search warrant at the multi-residence property of 1345 and 1347 E. 3rd Street in the City of Delta.
NOTE: During the Cedaredge trustees' July 21 meeting, Mayor Gene Welch encouraged the other board members to read a Cedaredge Police Department report on an important, difficult and successful law enforcement operation that the local department played a key role in. The DCI reported on major events referenced in the account beginning in 2014.
On April 21, the Delta County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant in relation to drug activity at a home located at 105 Dodge Street, Delta. Agencies assisting with the search warrant included the Montrose County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, the Delta Police Department and the 7th Judicial Drug Task Force.
