Three people escaped serious injury in a single vehicle accident on Trap Club Road near Adobe Buttes Landfill. The Colorado State Patrol handled the investigation.
At about midnight, Cedaredge firefighters responded to a house fire on Cactus Park Road, Cedaredge. The fire caused a small amount of damage to the floor and wall surrounding a wood stove.
A case of fraud involving the sale of a Long Haul kayak is under investigation. The kayak, valued at $5,000, was shipped to a man in Bronx, N.Y., in October. He later disputed the credit card charge and allegedly advertised the boat for sale on ebay.
Deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Fir Avenue in Crawford. They found a small amount of white powder that is being tested, but the quantity is not sufficient to support evidence of illegal distribution of cocaine or LSD as outlined in the search warrant.
A small brush fire on Fairview Road near Austin was quickly extinguished by Cedaredge firefighters. The call came in around 7 p.m. No one was located in the vicinity and it's unknown how the fire started.
A clerk at the Cory General Store contacted dispatch after a man wearing a stocking cap and camo pants came into the store carrying an assault rifle. He paid for his gas and left without acting suspiciously. Contacted later by deputies, he said he carried the rifle into the store because he didn't feel comfortable leaving it in his vehicle.
A welfare check was requested for a 49-year-old Paonia man who had threatened to drive his truck off the road.
Nicki Petersen, 67, of Crawford suffered minor injuries when her vehicle hit an icy patch and slid off Highway 92 near Crawford at about 6:30 p.m. She was transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Deputies arrested Jodel Bitonio, 44, of Montrose on outstanding warrants out of Delta and Montrose counties. During a pat down search, they found a substance resembling methamphetamine. Bitonio faces additional charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 50-year-old Delta area woman reported her husband had hit her with his walker.
Deputies responded to a family dispute on Vista Grande Drive, Orchard City, at about 11:30 p.m.
A man reportedly brandished a gun during a dispute on D Road in Crawford. By the time deputies arrived on the scene, both the victim and suspect had left.
The election results are in at the local, state and national level, and as expected, Democrats are doing well in state and national races. Colorado has elected Jared Polis as governor; nationally the Republicans appear to retain control of the Senate while Democrats now control the House of Representative.
With a ballot full of local and state measures, voter turnout in Delta County topped 71%, with 15,889 ballots cast. Statewide, voter turnout was just over 52%.
Of the three Delta County residents seeking state offices, Matt Soper won over Thea Chase in State Representative Dist. 54; Mike Mason lost to Julie McCluskie in State Representative Dist. 61; and Olen Lund lost to Kerry Donovan in State Senate Dist. 5.
Locally, in the City of Delta voters rejected a .5% sales tax increase to fund recreation, as well as recreational marijuana sales. The sale of medical marijuana and cultivation/manufacturing facilities was approved by a slim margin. Delta voters also gave the city the green light to move forward with selling or trading the Cottonwood and Riverbend Park, and to sell the old Municipal Light and Power Building.
