Local teams compete in Gunnison Invitational

Led by Lupita Garcia's 16th place time of 22 minutes, 30.99 seconds, the Olathe girls placed fifth overall Saturday at the 21-team Mountaineer Cowboy Invitational cross country meet at Gunnison.

Angela Alcaraz placed 29th in 23:58.08 and and Jaden Valdez 30th in 23:59.3, respectively; Cheyanne Germann placed 48th, Bailey Harris was 78th, and freshman Raquel Lovato finished 92nd for the Pirates.

The Delta girls placed eighth overall at Gunnison, led by Beki Atchley's 17th-place time of 22 minutes, 36.49 seconds.

Out of a field of 96 runners, Remi Baldwin placed 49th in 25:29.36 and Emma Corbasson finished 50th in 25:37.64. Abby Williams and Hana Hollenbeck placed 74th and 75th. Zoe Williams, Shoshanna Vigil and Alzbeta Hofmanova also competed for Delta.

Hotchkiss freshman Karlie Egging had a strong finish at Gunnison, placing 19th with a time of 22:46.39. Mariah Griffith finished 59th in 26:06.40, Grace Hatheway finished in 26:37.7 and Adair Ela finished 82nd in 29:07.62.

Delta's John Ames took 15 seconds off of his 2017 course time at Gunnison to place sixth out of 137 runners with a time of 17:11.46.

Shad Lewis managed to shave 43 seconds off of last year's time with a 20th-place time of 18:07.68. Doyle Young finished in 21:42.44, and Andrew Toole completed the high-altitude course in 21:53.57.

The Olathe boys placed seventh overall at Gunnison, led by Alecxis Hernandez's 31st-place time of 18:49.96. Running in the same pack, Layton McLaughlin placed 35th with a time of 18:50.99. Miguel Almanza placed 52nd in 19:40.1, Angel Sanchez placed 66th (20:21.46), and Kael Mattics placed 74th (20:48.78). Olathe had 10 entries at Gunnison. Also completing the course were Emmanuel Ledsma (21:58.56), Gabe Bailey (22:40.43), Bruno Ramirez (23:26.03), and Aaron Corona (27:21.73).

Hotchkiss entered four runners in the boys Mountaineer Cowboy Invitational cross country meet at Gunnison. Tevin Keller took 40 seconds off of his 2017 time to finish 57th with a time of 19:56.25. Will Ela finished in 22:00.29, and freshmen Ben Rodriguez and Pablo Camacho finished in 25:58.25 and 27:03.96.
