In a DCI article Oct. 3 titled "Kerry Donovan has earned our votes" is a biased misrepresentation against our Republican candidate Olen Lund.
In the article it appears the writer has firsthand knowledge of the role Donovan played in bringing fiber optics to our county. The writer attempts to paint Lund as opposing it. Wrong! I sat down with candidate Lund and here is my firsthand knowledge of his contribution to the project
Olen Lund has never been against the deployment of broadband. As chairman of the DMEA board Olen worked tirelessly and attended seminars from Denver to New Orleans to design a way to make sure broadband was deployed in a fiscally responsible way that protected the interests of the ratepayers of DMEA. While others wished to spend upwards of $90 million to blindly extend broadband service to all DMEA members without having the assurance of any return on that investment, Olen worked to figure out a way to get broadband service effectively deployed without exposing the DMEA members to such a huge debt.
The rumor that Olen is opposed to broadband is simply that. A rumor that was instigated and propagated in such a way that his campaign opponents could attack his fiduciary responsibility to the members of DMEA.
Look at Donovan's voting record. That's how you vote. Fiber optics has nothing to do with it. Vote Olen Lund Senate District 5.
