Galileo, biblical teachings and Christian responses to same-sex attraction will be discussed when Robert "Brother Bob" Anders of Pea Green preaches at Community United Methodist Church in Cedaredge Sunday, March 17. Anders will bring a spiritual and factual discussion of how Christians who condemn lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) people are stuck in a past uninformed by current research and knowledge just as was the church that condemned Galileo as a heretic for claiming the earth revolved around the sun. Anders will explain these results from people reading scripture as fact without recognizing the social and cultural norms of the times in which the Bible was written and later interpreted.
Anders will ask the congregation to listen to his message with open minds remembering that Jesus loves everyone, and that it is important for the church to convey that love.
"We have men, women and youth who are lesbian, gay, transsexual, bisexual and questioning in our community right at this moment who need our love and unconditional acceptance," Anders said. "Many are being bullied and are afraid to be who they are. They may not be able to come out to their families and friends."
All are invited to the worship that will begin at 10 a.m. at the church at the corner of NW 3rd Street and Aspen Avenue in Cedaredge. For information, contact Pamela Gubkin weekday mornings at email@example.com or 970-856-3696, or Pastor Joe Agne, firstname.lastname@example.org or 720-891-5233.
