Scott Lock (standing) and Jerry Young, co-directors for Cedaredge public works, team up to upgrade a residential water meter.

Cedarege public works is taking advantage of dry weather to replace old water meters with new Neptune radio-read meters.

The Town of Cedaredge has more than 1,300 water taps and the goal is to switch out at least 800 meters by the close of 2018. Commercial meters have already been switched so the town's 2018 efforts will focus on replacing residential meters. The new meters can be read remotely from a passing vehicle without the need to stop and physically remove blue meter covers which can be buried under snow or obscured by vegetation. The removal and installation process can take as little as 20 minutes if the old meter is accessible.
