Town of Paonia garbage customers will see an increase in their monthly bill beginning in June.
The increase comes after trustees formally adopted a resolution establishing garbage rates and charges at the May 21 meeting. The increase applies only to the town's garbage collection rates and was formally approved in March in response to an increase from $28 to $40.78 in Delta County Landfill tipping fees in 2017. The increase is estimated to increase the town's annual cost of providing trash service by about $10,000 annually.
Per the resolution, the following rates for weekly collection of 33-gallon containers were approved:
single container -- $17 per month
two or three containers -- $20 per month
Four or five containers -- $27 per month
In addition, a $5 per month fee will be charged for each additional 33-gallon container that exceeds the user's categorized limit.
Weekly Dumpster pick-up
Two-cubic-yard -- $35 per month
Three-cubic-yard -- $37 per month
Per the resolution, the town may, at its discretion, apply the following extra charge for oversized items:
Items easily handled by one garbage collector -- $6
Items easily handled by two garbage collectors -- $8
Items that can be handled by three garbage collectors -- $11.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
