The Cedaredge High School golf team is hitting its team goals and this week, shot its best team score of the season.
On Sept. 7, the Bruins took part in the Vail Mountain School Invitational at Vail Golf Club. The team landed in 13th place with its score of 266. (Top three teams: Vail Mountain 221, Steamboat Springs 230 and Aspen 231). Brysen Harris tied for 25th place with his score of 82.
Team scores included: Harris’ 82; senior Dylan Furubotten with 87, junior Kyle Brown with 97, junior Jackson Cooper with 104; and freshman Logan McIntire with 112.
“We still think we can take a few strokes off of that, but we are pretty close to hitting our goal,” said coach Russell Coleman. “The course was in great shape and wasn’t easy by any means. I’m very happy with the way the kids played.”
According to the coach, the standout player of this tournament was Brown. With his score of 97, the team now has three players under 100.
“He’s been getting better and better every week,” he added. “He isn’t a super long player, but he is a real grinder. He never gives up and has the ability to bounce back after tough holes.”
Going forward, the Bruins have two tournaments this week, one in Yampa Valley (Sept. 13) and the other in Haymaker (Sept. 14). Scores will be given at a later time. After the tournaments, the team heads to Regionals on Sept. 21.
