The Cedaredge Town Council approved the 2020 town budget and appropriations at the Dec. 12 council meeting. Additionally, it approved the resolution regarding emergency reserves for 2020, in which 3% of approved expenditures for the year are reserved for declared emergencies. $48,112 will therefore be placed in reserves.

In other news, Codi Nelson, owner of the Creekside Italian Cuisine and Wine Bar, wrote to the council and reported that she would not be renewing her lease for the restaurant, which is located at the golf course. Nelson announced that the restaurant will be closed and the building will be cleaned and vacated by the end of December.

“This is an unfortunate situation,” Nelson wrote. “I was truly hoping that I could be successful at this location and bring a beautiful dining experience to not only our town but to our community.”

The board reported that Golf Course Director Erik Hansen is resigning and a replacement for his position has not been found at this point.

The board passed a resolution to waive penalties for utility billing for the month of December due to the holiday season. Penalties for late payments on utilities will resume in January with the regular billing cycle.

Police Chief Dan Sanders reported to the board of trustees that the two newest officers on the force, Keydon Long and Mike O’Reilly, are doing well with the force. Sanders also reported that the Cedaredge Parade of Lights went well and that all the entries in the parade did as they were supposed to. There were two recent lockdown drills recently, Sanders told the board. One was at the high school and one was at the middle school.

Kami Collins, town clerk and director of economic development, reminded the board of trustees and the public that elections are taking place on April 7, 2020. Those who wish to run for office will be able to run for the office of the mayor or trustee, with three trustee positions becoming available. Anyone with questions about running for public office can call Collins at 970-856-3123, extension 112, or email her at kcollins@cedaredgecolorado.com.
