Delta County Commissioners completed their yearly re-organization of the board for 2020 during the Jan. 8 meeting.
Commissioner Mark Roeber will serve as chairman and Commissioner Don Suppes will serve as vice-chairman. Commissioners voted unanimously to move their regular board meetings to the first and third Wednesdays of the month in order to accommodate the courts who will meet on Tuesdays.
Commissioner meetings dates and times will be posted on the front door of the courthouse located at Fifth and Palmer in Delta. Courtesy postings will also be made at the North Fork Annex and on the Delta County website. Regular Board of County Commissioner meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. in room 236.
Along with the changes on the board a number of dates were set for various county related meetings. The Board of Health meets the third Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m.; Fair Board meets first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.; Library Board meets the second Wednesday of the month at 2:30 p.m. and Delta County Economic Development meets the second Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
The Delta County Independent was approved as the official newspaper for the county while KUBC and KVNF were approved to be the official emergency radio stations.
In other meeting news, commissioners unanimously approved Gunnison River Pleasure Park located at 8949 Pleasure Park Road in Hotchkiss for a Fermented Malt Beverage On/Off Premises and Hotel and Restaurant license. Desperado Liquor located at 40486 D Road in Crawford was also unanimously approved for a liquor license renewal.
Commissioners received and approved the Emergency Management Providers Grant (EMPG) request for 2020 by Kris Steward, Emergency Manager.
Steward reported that in 2019 the county received $28,000 and should expect the same amount in 2020 from FEMA. The funds are used primarily to assist rural counties in meeting FEMA standards and complete projects for mitigation.
Stewart told the commissioners that work on the county’s Emergency Operation Plan will be the primary focus in 2020 along with mutual aid agreements with other counties involved in the Little Blue Construction project slated for 2021.
He also updated the board on ambulance licenses coming up in the first quarter as well as the radio tower in Crawford. Robbie LeValley, County Administrator, said the county is waiting on “weed control language” that the BLM will accept before the county can proceed.
The next Delta County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 8:30 a.m. in room 236 at the Delta County Courthouse.
