Delta County residents running for a seat on the Delta County School District 50J school board can begin circulating nomination petitions on Aug. 7. Board elections will be held Nov. 5.
The district will have three open seats this fall. They include seats currently held by board president Pete Blair, secretary/treasurer Jill Jurca and board member Dan Burke. Blair, who has served on the board since 2011, is term limited; Jurca is completing a four-year term and is eligible to run again; and Burke was appointed last March to fill a vacancy. Under board bylaws, his term of appointment runs until the election when a successor is elected for the remainder of the term.
Board member Ron Germann and board vice president Jan Tuin have two more years of service remaining.
Board terms are for four years. Qualified candidates must have been a resident of the district and a registered voter for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election. No person who has been convicted of a sexual offense against a child is eligible to serve on the board. Candidates may begin circulating nomination petitions no sooner than Wednesday, Aug. 7; deadline to file petitions is Friday, Aug. 30.
Those interested in running for the board can contact district superintendent Caryn Gibson at email@example.com or call 874-4438.
