On Saturday and Sunday mornings, Jan. 18-19, the public is invited to attend the 15th annual Grand Mesa Summit Challenge Dog Sled Race. The races will begin at 8:30 a.m. and proceed with staggered starts all morning with racing concluding around noon-1 p.m. The event will include sanctioned sprints involving four to eight dogs as well as one to two dog Skijor events where a musher is pulled on skis. A junior class competition and non-sanctioned sled and Skijor events are also included on the program. The location is Mesa Top Trail on Grand Mesa. The race site is near the intersection of Highway 65 and Land’s End Road. Look for signs posted at the entrance to the race site. Spectators should dress warmly for winter temperatures and come prepared to stand since there is no spectator seating. Volunteers who wish to assist with the race should come early and inquire at the race officials’ table. A food truck will be available. Spectators are asked not to bring their dogs or other pets to the races.
