The Cedaredge Volunteer Fire Department’s 18th annual chili cook-off packed 601 diners into the department’s spacious firehouse. While visitors sampled a wide variety of home-made chili, judges conferred and four talented individuals were awarded trophies honoring their recipes. Each trophy was topped with the golden image of a bowl of chili and figurine firefighters decorated the base. The 2019 winners are:
Hot chili: Ron Prescott from Cedaredge.
Red chili: Lane Seymour from Montrose.
Green chili: Marcy Peterson from Cedaredge.
People’s choice: Pat Mercep from Cedaredge.
The cook-off marks the start of Applefest 2019 and it’s a major fundraiser for Delta County Fire Protection District No. 3 which serves Cedaredge and Surface Creek Valley. This year’s mega-meal featured 96 pots of homemade chili all served up by firefighters and other volunteers.
