Hotchkiss High School Class of 2020 enjoyed a bright sunny day for its unique ‘park-in’ graduation on May 19. Due to COVID-19, only graduates and a limited number of family members were allowed to attend the event.

Thirty-eight graduates and their families were ushered onto the parking lot north of the high school to the sounds of Pomp and Circumstance mingled with well wishes from teachers piped through loudspeakers.

The ceremony was led by Principal Marty Rover. Autumn Luginbyhl sang the National Anthem. Class President Ethan Guy welcomed those in attendance while fellow classmate Nadia Hill gave the Salutatorian address followed by Evan Mattison with the Valedictorian address.

Doug Horton, Athletic Director, presented three senior athletes Elsie Vazquez, Shay Glaser and Jace Peebles with the “H” blanket for their outstanding athletic careers.

Resa Moran, school counselor, presented the class of 2020 to Principal Marty Rover, Assistant Principal Doug Egging, Delta County School District Superintendent Caryn Gibson and Dan Burke, school board member for the presentation of diplomas and awards.

Ethan Guy performed the traditional turning of the tassels followed by singing of the Hotchkiss School Song by the Class of 2020.

Hotchkiss Marshals, Delta County Sheriff’s Deputies and Hotchkiss Fire and Ambulance vehicles escorted the graduates and their families from the high school through downtown Hotchkiss where well wishers lined the street to honor the Class of 2020.

National Honor Society Members Joli Hannah Derby, Ethan Gabriel Guy, Nadia Renee Hill, Sydnie Paige Martens, Evan John Mattison, Jesse David Miller, Jace Lee Peebles and Elsie Abigail Mendoza Vazquez were recognized in the program. National Honor Society membership is based on application and maintaining a minimum 3.20 GPA.
