President of the Cedaredge Rotary Club, Phyllis Hoffman (left), presents a certificate naming Cedaredge High School senior Makayla Kehmeier as January’s Student of the Month. Joining the honored student are her father Derek, her mother Dasha and CHS secretary Christie Stratman who nominated Makayla for the honor.

Makayla Kehmeier is the Cedaredge Rotary Club’s Student of the Month for January. Growing up in Cedaredge, Makayla learned to love the outdoors and she enjoys fishing in nearby rivers and lakes. A senior at Cedaredge High School (CHS) she plays volleyball, basketball and soccer. She’s been on the academic honor roll all four years of high school and has periodically achieved all-conference and state-wide honors in sports. She also serves as a community volunteer and she helps at the CHS main office.

CHS secretary Christie Stratman nominated Makayla for the Rotary honor. She described Makayla as an unselfish young woman with integrity who serves as a leader and a mentor for younger students. Her mother and father, Dasha and Derek, describe her as a determined goal setter with an amazing work ethic.

After high school graduation, Makayla hopes to enter college to train as a dental hygienist and, ideally, she’d like to continue playing basketball at the university level.
