The Delta County Fair Board announces the return of Floyd Beard, an award winning and widely known Cowboy Poet and Hotchkiss native. Beard will perform with renowned cowboy poet Nyle Henderson.

Beard is an award-winning poet and has been writing and rhyming for more than 30 years. He is the 2016 and 2017 International Music Association's Male Poet of the Year. He will perform during Community Night, a new event

Beard is a 1973 graduate of Hotchkiss High School and earned a degree in production agriculture at Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction. In 1975 he transferred to Colorado State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in vocational agricultural education, and later a master's degree in agriculture.

Beard and parents Fred and Grace Beard lived on Hanson Mesa near Hotchkiss for many years. He returned to Delta County after college and was involved in agriculture in the Hotchkiss-Crawford area for several years. He then worked for Delta County schools as a teacher and administrator before becoming superintendent of schools in Springfield, Colo.

Beard now lives "twelve cattle guards from the pavement" near Kim, Colo., where he and wife Valerie, run Corriente cattle with their daughter and son-in-law. A good day involves getting up before the sun "pinking up the east,"riding, working cattle, and settling down on the porch to watch the sunset.

Most of his original poetry is written about his observations while working on the ranch. For more information go to: www.floydbeardcow or email him at
