The third annual mud volleyball tournament returns to Paonia this Fourth of July. Located at the North Fork Horse Patrol, 39696 Mathews Lane, entry fee is again $250, and each team must have at least two females on the court at all times.
The winning team taking home half the pot -- the amount to be determined by the number of teams competing. The other half goes toward the North Fork Horse Patrol scholarship. Each year the nonprofit North Fork Horse Patrol that manages the facility presents a scholarship to a local student based on his or her participation in FFA, agriculture and equine activities.
"It's a good way to take home a little cash and have some fun," said co-organizer Shane Smith. This year's setup is a little different, said Smith. Rather than flood the arena, the volleyball pits will be located in the parking lot. Registration opens at 2 p.m., and tournament play begins at 3 p.m. Call 261-2251 or 201-2278 with questions or to register.
