Winter Warrior dodgeball tourney helps VFW

The seventh annual Winter Warrior dodgeball tournament at Paonia High School was held Wednesday, Dec. 5. The tournament, bake sale, live auction and chili dinner raised more than $3,000 for the American Legion Post 97 in Paonia.

The third grade class won the Paonia Elementary School K-6 copper-silver wars (and will be rewarded this week with an ice cream party), and the eighth grade class won the 7-12 copper-silver wars.

Organizers wish to thank sponsors and donors who made the event a success: Lightworks; Renee Adams; Homestead; S&B Quilters; locals who donated jams, jellies, pickles, salsa and more to the auction; Judy Luther -- PHS Alumna, class of 1963; Paonia Elementary School for their participation in the copper/silver wars; Paonia High School and Paonia Junior High student councils and their families for donations toward the chili dinner; and all the generous folks who volunteered to work, play dodgeball, and bake. It was a fun and successful event.
