The Delta Panthers brought in another win this week, but continue to work on their chemistry as a team.

Against the Coal Ridge Titans on Sept. 9, the Panthers won 3-0. Set one was 25-19, set two 25-16 and set three was 25-16. This brings the team to 3-3, overall.

“I am very pleased with how hard the team worked defensively and responded to pressure,” said Beth Nelson.

Junior Ellie Ames led the team with 6 kills. She was followed by seniors Kaelynn Porter, Erika Kuta and Kayla Miller with 5 kills each. The team came out strong with 56 digs.

“This week’s win was definitely a team effort and I am very happy with my senior leadership, all 10 of them,” said Nelson. “My stand out plays were the times we chased balls down and supported one another.”

Nelson said this is an experienced team, but they are still figuring out their team chemistry. According to the coach, they had some tough teams on their schedule early for a reason, and after playing those teams, it was revealed what they needed to work on. It became clear that they need to work on their speed with blocking and defense, she added. But, the coach said she is very pleased with how the team responded in practice this week and that they are working hard to improve on these skills for the playoffs.

Going forward Nelson said the team is focused on staying mentally tough and focusing on its defense right now.

The Panthers are away this week playing at Central 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, and at Moffat County 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17.
