The Friends of Paonia Library will hold its annual holiday book sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Paonia Library community room. A special holiday table will have great buys on higher value gently-used books, which make wonderful gifts.
Book buyers can take a round trip ride to the annual book sale and events by hopping onto the horse drawn hayride at Poulos Park on Grand Avenue in downtown Paonia, to the Third Street sidewalk in front of the library. The hayride will turn around at Berg Harvest Mercantile across the street. Berg Harvest will host Santa Claus from noon - 2 p.m. Elf helpers will make sure everyone crosses safely between the library and Berg Harvest.
The hayrides start at 10 a.m (weather permitting) and will end at approximately 1 p.m. The Friends of the Library will have free hot chocolate, cider, coffee and cookies in the library community room for everyone. This is the seventh year that Steve Kossler, a local rancher, is donating his time and wonderful pair of Percheron draft horses to pull the wagon, as a holiday gift to the community.
As part of the celebration, the library staff will present a Holiday Puppet Show at 10:45 a.m and 11:30 a.m (adults welcome, too).
A kid’s/adult’s coloring contest is also part of the celebration. The contest will be held for four age groups (3 years to 6; 7 years to 9; 10 years through 12; and 12 and older). The winners will receive a $25 gift certificate for one new book of their choice. Coloring contest entry forms may be picked up at the library front desk from Nov. 27. Kids can color while parents shop for books. Winners will be announced on Dec. 17.
Book lovers — stock up on “gently-used” best sellers for gifts or bring a bag to fill up for your winter reading. Bring the kids and enjoy all the holiday events at the library on Dec. 7.
