On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Valley Symphony Association (VSA) came to the Cedaredge Town Park for the annual Pops in the Park concert, partnered with DMEA and its affiliate, Elevate. The next day, the VSA performed the same show at the Montrose Riverbottom Park.
The music covered Americana style pieces, as well as movie music, rock ‘n’ roll, Broadway tunes, traditional marches and well-known light classical pieces.
The two performances of Pops in the Park were the only two outdoor performances the VSA will have this season, and it featured both the orchestra and the chorus. At the conclusion of the concert, at the end of the final patriotic piece, a cannon was fired on the tennis court in honor of the country.
The two-hour event included an ice cream social and VSA season ticket sales. The concert season currently starts on Oct. 27 and goes through Apr. 26 of 2020, with a concert planned in October, November, February, March and April.
Tickets to VSA concerts are available online and in store, where adults can get theirs for $18 and seniors can get theirs for $17. Ticket prices at the door, however, jump to $20 for adults and seniors. Whether purchased ahead of time or at the door, youth tickets are only $5. If the VSA can sell 200 more season ticket packages, it will be able to add a Saturday concert for its 50th season, which will take place from 2020-2021.
In store, tickets are available for purchase in Delta at Clubb’s, or in Montrose at Maggie’s Books or Montrose Pavilion. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit ValleySymphony.net.
