A Colorado Springs man is dead following a one-car accident on Highway 133 near the Stucker Mesa Road intersection.
According to Trooper Josh Lewis with the Colorado State Patrol, at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, Timothy Peterson, 50, of Colorado Springs was traveling northbound on Highway 133 in a 2004 GMC SUV near mile marker 8 when he failed to negotiate a left curve.
The vehicle hit the guardrail on the right side of the highway, traveled down an embankment and back up again before hitting a boulder, causing the car to roll. Peterson, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was ejected from the vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene, said Lewis.
The accident resulted in a temporary closure of Highway 133 between Hotchkiss and Paonia, and traffic was directed onto Back River Road.
Lewis said an investigation is ongoing, and that both speed and alcohol are being considered as factors in the crash.
