As part of its summer of fundraisers, The Pondy's Cancer Warriors' Walk will be held between 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. The walk begins at Cedaredge Town Park where there will also be food, drawings, and a silent auction. Individuals or groups can pledge money per-mile or give a flat donation to walk. Pledge forms are available at The Pondy Tavern in downtown Cedaredge and at the park on Saturday.
On Aug. 17 the Warriors will sponsor a Day on the Mesa, an all-day ATV gymkhana on Grand Mesa. Information will be available Saturday at the park or at the tavern.
The warriors are a group of dedicated volunteers led by Pondy owners D.J. and Barb Hladik. Every year volunteers stage a series of events designed to raise money for individuals in need. In June The Pondy hosted an all-you-can-eat Mexican dinner which raised $2,000.
This year, six-year-old Silas Sanchez and 12-year-old Carlos Madleno are the beneficiaries. Contributions will go toward helping the patients and their families with medical treatments and related expenses.
Last year, generous community donations of $15,000 went to support six-year-old Quinten Christian and his family in their battle with the young boy's cancer. Barb Hladik said Quinten has responded well to treatments which are being funded in part by last year's contributions.
As with years past, the Hladiks are counting on a core group of good people to help them make this year a success, but more volunteers are always needed. Those interested in helping with events or by contributing funds can call The Pondy at 970-856-3464 or stop by at 220 West Main St., between 11 a.m-2 p.m. daily.
