The Orchard City Town Board has chosen Delta High School senior Emily Nortnik as its student of the month.
Emily has been a three-sport athlete throughout middle and high school. She is the captain of her volleyball and basketball teams and has helped lead her volleyball team to state for the second year in a row.
She volunteers for several service clubs, including mentoring young students at Lincoln Elementary. She is the Student Council president, a member of the National Honor Society, and maintains a 4.7 GPA.
She plans on attending college to become a high school English teacher. She is planning on attending either Western State Colorado University or Colorado Mesa University.
She is the daughter of Joe and Lisa Nortnik of Austin.
The Hotchkiss-Crawford Historial Society will host its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2:00 at the Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss. There will be music, refreshments and a guest speaker, Robert Sibernagel. He is well known in the area as he writes regional history columns for The Daily Sentinel. He was formerly the editorial page editor for that paper for 19 years.
