Cedaredge resident Melvin L. McFarlane died after a lengthy battle with cancer July 28, 2019, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 67.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thurday, Aug. 1, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
He was born Dec. 23, 1951, to Gordon and Dorothy (Kraklau) McFarlane in Brainerd, Minn. He spent his childhood in Brainerd then the family moved to Chandler, Ariz. where he graduated from high school. He later received his associate's degree in Kansas.
Mr. McFarlane worked at US Steel in Somerset. He went to diesel mechnic school at Delta Vo-Tech. He later received a degree in aviation school in Everett, Wash.
Following his schooling, he worked for GE as a jet engine mechanic for 17 years.
Mr. McFarlane and his daughter, Ruthanna, have lived in Cedaredge for the past six years after moving from Kansas.
He was a member of the Assembly of God faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, repairing cars, building guns and reloading shells.
Mr. McFarlane is survived by his daughter, Ruthanna McFarlane of Cedaredge; brother, Bernie (Brenda) McFarlane of Paonia; sisters, Kathleen Rodstrom of Cedaredge, and Evelyn (Roger) Randunz of Minnesota; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Dorothy McFarlane; and his brother-in-law, Don Rodstrom.
