Richard N. Evans, 77, passed away Dec. 5, 2019, at HopeWest in Grand Junction. He was born on May 22, 1942, to Marion and Charles Evans in Riverside, New Jersey. He grew up in South New Jersey where he met and married his wife LaVerne in 1962. Both resided in Fort Myers, Florida, where they raised two sons, Richard Charles Evans and Russell Daniel Evans. In 1990 Richard and LaVerne moved to Fruitland Mesa in Crawford where Richard established a taxidermy business, “Evans Taxidermy.”

In 1995, they returned to Florida until 2003 when they opened another business “The Trout Store & More” on Bridge Street in Hotchkiss.

Richard did pheasant mounts for the Scenic Mesa Ranch in Hotchkiss and the Black Canyon Wing and Clay Ranch in Delta. He donated displays and fish mounts to the Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery.

His favorite time of year was the fall, camping and hunting in the Crystal Creek area.

He leaves behind wife LaVerne of 57 years; sons, Richard and Russell; sister, Mary Jane Bechler; three nieces; two nephews; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his hunting partner and friend, Larry Claxton.

All who knew him for his smile and wit, will miss him greatly.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time in Florida. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider making a donation to HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
