Robert and Ellen Rice

Robert William Rice and Ellen Marlene Mollohan Rice

Robert William Rice and Ellen Marlene Mollohan Rice went home to the arms of Jesus within hours of each other on July 7, 2021.

Robert William Rice arrived in this world on June 30, 1935, to Leslie and Marie Rice in Sterling, Colorado. Ellen Marlene Mollohan Rice arrived shortly thereafter on Sept. 5, 1935, to Duff and Katherine Mollohan also in Sterling, Colorado.

Bob’s early childhood was spent with his Grandmother Anna Rice who was like a mother to him, she was his guide and teacher in his knowing about Jesus and knowing about being accepted into the Kingdom of God. At 8 years old he started living on his own in a bunkhouse as there was no room at the Inn, (house), after his sister was born. This was okay with him as it gave him a lot of freedom. He helped on the family farm until he was about twenty years old. His education was at New Haven Grade School and Fleming High School. He found his niche in life as a carpenter, starting in Fort Collins and soon was on his own with his trade name as Beartrapper Woodcraftsman. He became a finish carpenter and a beautiful cabinet builder, giving him and Ellen the freedom to come and go as they pleased and not have to answer to anyone.

Ellen’s parents were devoted Christians and were charter members of LeRoy Evangelical Church with Sunday mornings finding her and her sisters Bonnie and Donna in their hand made dresses with their brother Marlen sitting still and quiet in the front pew. Ellen loved her childhood growing up on her family’s farm and was a daddy’s girl. She started her schooling at Harding School that was built by her grandfather Ward Mollohan graduating from Fleming High School where she was a cheerleader. She played the piano and organ for weddings and for her church in Saratoga, Wyoming when her and Bob moved there on one of their adventures. She had always wanted to be a wife and a mommy and could hardly wait until she graduated high school to be married, one day after her 18th birthday on Sept 6th, 1953.

Together Bob and Ellen have three children, Bambi, (Kenny), Rathman, Tina, (Mitch), Ammons, and Shane, (Maren), Rice, that they were incredibly happy to have and grow up together along with them. They all had many fun-filled adventures together with their motto being that they travel and have fun while the kids are at home and to not worry about the future. It worked well for them and some of the fun things were camping in the mountains and two trips to Alaska. They were also blessed with seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren whom they loved dearly.

They died because their hearts stopped. There are no funeral or memorial services, they wanted to be remembered as they were. They will be cremated, and their ashes combined as they left this world in the same way they lived, together.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. View the internet obituary and sign the online guest registry at taylorfuneralservice.com
