All through his first term as Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) director Olen Lund has used his experience, knowledge and contacts to further develop hydro, micro-hydro, coal bed methane, solar and other local natural resources for local electricity generation within our service area.
Olen and his wife, Debbie have been married for 29 years and have three children who graduated from Paonia High School (as did Olen in 1978). Lund has a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a master of science degree in welding engineering from Ohio State University.
Lund was instrumental as president of the board when DMEA petitioned the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to allow DMEA to promote responsible electricity generation in our area. As secretary/treasurer of the board, Olen used his commonsense business experience to help develop an economically feasible, and practical, method to pursue fiber broadband service to ensure minimal costs and maximum benefits for all DMEA member owners.
In addition to serving as president and secretary/treasurer of the DMEA board, Lund chaired the DMEA board's engineering and construction committee. He has been certified by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association as a credentialed electric cooperative director.
Currently Lund is a member of the board of directors of the Colorado Rural Electric Association (the Colorado statewide REA) and has been able to garner the support of electric cooperatives throughout the state in an effort to better define within Colorado State Statute the parameters of competition between cooperative and municipal electricity providers.
Lund operates a farm in the North Fork Valley that has been in the Lund family since 1917. He is president of the Delta County Farm and Livestock Bureau and chairman of the Colorado Farm Bureau Water Advisory Committee. Lund was a Delta County commissioner for eight years and vice chair of the Agriculture, Wildlife, and Rural Affairs Committee of Colorado Counties, Inc., the statewide county commissioners' association.
Lund was a founding member of the Gunnison Basin Roundtable, an entity established by Colorado State Statute to represent the interests of water users in all the Gunnison Basin, including Montrose and Delta counties. Lund also represented the Gunnison Basin on the Inter-Basin Compact Committee, an advisory committee on water issues to the Colorado Water Conservation Board and to the governor of Colorado.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
