The Delta Panther boys scored 72 points to finish sixth in a field of 18 teams at the Hotchkiss Invitational track meet. Montrose won the team title with 91 points.
Delta had a first-place finish in the 1600m relay and finished second in the 400m dash and discus events to highlight its competition in Hotchkiss.
The Panthers' 1600m relay team members included Logan Freed, Jacob Wear, Jarret Hernandez and Hezekiah Huff. Their winning time was 3:38.19. Wear finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 53.50 and Cameron Schaal threw the discus 124-11 for another second-place finish for the Panthers.
Delta's top eight finishes, beginning with the 100m dash were Huff (11.93), Wear in the 200m (8th-24.77), John Ames (800m-4th, 2:10.54), Ames (1600m run 3rd, 4:47.42), Jesse Phillips (6th in 110 high hurdles, 19.52) and Logan Freed (4th in 300m hurdles, 46.31).
Delta placed in all but one of five relays on Saturday in Hotchkiss. The team of Kula Moo, Hernandez, Huff and Dah Wah finished eighth (47.67) with the 800m sprint medley relay team (Noah Nortnik, James Goff, Colton Johnson and Kole Granger) placing fourth with a time of 1:47.05.
The Panthers placed seventh in the 3200m relay race with a time of 9:51.10. That team was made up of Thomas Neil, Syni Lujan, Carson Roithmayr and Enrique Gonzales.
Schaal completed the scoring for Delta with his second place finish in discus and a sixth place in shot put (39-1).
Delta will split its team for this weekend with a portion of the team heading to Grand Junction for the Mickey Dunn at Stocker Stadium and another portion participating in the Cedaredge Invitational.
