Last week's basketball games were similar in the way they began and similar in the way they ended; with big victories. The Panthers hosted Hotchkiss on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and pulled off a 64-38 win. A road trip to Basalt on Thursday was also a big win for Delta as the Panthers rolled to a 62-25 decison to go 2-0 on the young season. Both games were non-conference matchups.

Sophomore Sara Geddes was Delta's top scorer in the week with 29 points, 17 against Hotchkiss and another 12 counters in Basalt against the Longhorns. Senior Aubrey Jones was close behind with her 25 points, seven against Hotchkiss and 18 in Basalt.

Against Hotchkiss, Geddes scored just one point in the first quarter and netted nine in the second period to lead all scorers at the break with 10 points. Missa Webb was busy with a scoring surge in the second quarter and had eight points at the break. The Panthers led 16-13 after one period and had a 35-20 halftime lead.

Freshman Keeley Porter had five points in the fourth period helping the Panthers outscore Hotchkiss 29-18 in the second half.

Junior Jenna Sutliff canned six points with Webb adding another five in the third quarter to put Delta up 52-28 with one period left in the game. Sutliff finished the game with six points and Webb had 13. Porter ended the game with eight points.

Hotchkiss sophomore Shay Glaser had two of the Bulldogs' three-point goals in the game and finished with 11 points and four steals. Joining Glaser in double figures was junior Kaiya Firor who scored 10 points and had four steals and 12 rebounds.

In Basalt, Jones scored at least four points in each of the four quarters played. Her consistent play helped Delta take an 11-6 lead after one period and a 23-15 halftime lead.

The Panthers, behind Webb's six counters and four points from Jones and Geddes, exploded in the third quarter with 22 points, while a stout defense limited the Longhorns to just four points bumping Delta's lead to 45-19.

Webb finished the game with seven points and Porter had 10 in a winning cause. Sutliff had nine in the win. All but one Panther scored at least one point.

Delta plays Paonia at 6 p.m. in the second annual First Colorado National Bank tournament on Friday. The Panthers play either Hotchkiss or Cedaredge on Saturday at either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m.
