Last weekend's wrestling season began for many teams across the state.
Delta was one of many teams to participate in the annual Maverick Duals hosted on the campus of CMU. The Panthers were 3-2 on the day.
The Panthers' wins came against Bayfield 39-29, Durango 48-15 and Coal Ridge 48-24. Grand Valley (48-24) and Rifle (30-22) were the two losses for Delta at the Maverick Duals.
Individually in the five-match meet sophomore Ku Htoo (106) brought home a 5-0 record, all coming on forfeits. Ben Koch (126), another sophomore, went 2-1 in matches wrestled (2-0 in forfeit wins) with two pins and the only loss to AJ Serna of Grand Valley; senior Andrew Toole (senior 132-pounder) was 3-0 with plus two forfeit wins; junior Colby Wilson was 1-3 at 138 (and a forfeit win); freshman Timothy Horn (145) went 2-2 with two pins and a forfeit win; senior Aiden Barrios (170) was 2-0 (with three forfeit wins); junior Brandon Butler (182) was 1-1 with three forfeit wins; junior Gauge Lockhart (195) was 3-0, plus two forfeits, in dual competition and Eli Miramontes (220) was 2-2 plus a forfeit.
Delta, and all other Delta County high schools will compete in this week's Delta Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The Panthers and Hotchkiss will meet on the mat in Delta Dec. 11 with varsity action set for 6 p.m. followed by junior varsity matches at 7 p.m.
On Dec. 2, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a report of an assault. Officers spoke with a 64-year-old male with a bleeding injury on his neck.
