Homecoming 2015 was a huge success for Delta High School. The Panthers enjoyed a runaway 42-0 win last Friday night against Summit's Tigers.

Delta scored the first time it got its hands on the ball. Tristan Brown scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 1-yard plunge with 10:51 left in the first period. A.B. Ontiveros kicked the extra point, and Delta led 7-0.

The Panthers got a second chance to score moments after the ensuing kickoff. A Summit fumble was recovered by Cameron Schaal, and Delta began its next drive from the Tigers' 20-yard line.

Brown finished the 30-yard scoring drive with a run of 14 yards with 10:01 left in the first quarter. Ontiveros' kick made it 14-0.

Delta's defense stymied Summit's offense, and the Tigers were forced to punt the ball away. Kole Roberts kept the ball on a quarterback keeper and scampered 30 yards to the end zone to complete a 42-yard drive in four plays. With Ontiveros' PAT kick, Delta had a 21-0 lead with 7:49 left in the opening frame.

The next score for Delta came on a Schaal 23-yard fumble recovery and run. Following the kick by Ontiveros, Delta upped its lead to 28-0 as the game entered second-quarter play.

Delta waited until near the end of the second quarter to put more points on the board. Brown got the call from 8 yards out to cap a six-play, 32-yard drive with just 45.4 left before halftime. With the extra point, Delta held a commanding 35-0 lead.

Josh Reeder recovered Summit's next miscue, and the Panthers began their next offensive series at Summit's 18-yard line. The scoring drive took one play with Beau Byers collecting a Kole Roberts aerial for an 18-yard touchdown. With the PAT, Delta was in charge, 42-0, with 28.4 left in the opening half.

With the 42 first-half points, a running clock was instituted for the remainder of the game.

Delta's second unit took the field in the second half and held its own as each team played pretty much in the center of the field for the remainder of the game.

Delta had enough offense to put up 174 yards on the ground, with Ethan Keller's 45 yards on six carries leading the way. Brown had 34 yards on five carries.

Roberts threw the ball 12 times and completed five passes for 86 yards and one touchdown, while Drake Horn added 1 yard on a one-for-four passing stint.

All together, the Panthers accumulated 261 yards of offense.

Defensively, Delta's defense was led by Brown's 11 tackles, with Reeder adding 10 stops. Kory Mills, Sam Komives and Logan Church had nine tackles each.

The Panthers are at Glenwood Springs on Friday, Oct. 16, for a 7 p.m. contest with the Demons.
