My older brother, Richard "Dick" Proctor has been at Paonia Care Center going on four years now. On Nov. 17, I went to my fourth Thanksgiving dinner. Each year I have come home fired up and determined on writing this letter of thanks, but then I'd get busy and never get it written.
I have always been so impressed with all the hard work, dedication and love that goes into making this dinner special for the residents and their families. They set up the resident's rooms with table and chairs, so it feels like you are dining in your own home as a family again.
Thanks to Jackie and her great kitchen staff -- they serve up a perfect Thanksgiving meal. Everyone jumps in and helps serve each and every room with the best service ever. There is a lady there every day, helping to take care of her mother, and she volunteers to help with all the other residents. She said it is amazing how Jackie and her staff can serve so much food for so many people and have it so perfect. I agree. The combined effort from the entire staff makes for a perfect evening with our loved ones.
I wish my brother could still be 13 and living at his home, but that isn't possible. I am really happy that he is at Paonia Care Center.
I go up to see him every Sunday and Wednesday, so I get to see firsthand how hard each of the nurse's aides works. I watch them put their hearts and souls into making sure that each and every resident is taken care of. When they walk by and say hi, the big smile on my brother's face is priceless. Thanks to Paonia Care for making my brother feel secure, comfortable, content and loved.
