In their final home dual of the season the Paonia Eagles defeated Olathe last Thursday, 59-9.
The dual opened at 160 pounds with Olathe's Wyatt Mansker winning by an 8-2 decision over Jesse Burns.
Paonia won five matches by fall: Anthony Felice (170) over Tegon Harris in 2 minutes, 53 seconds; 182 -- Jaden Miller over Norma Alejandro (0:17); 195 -- Poncho Lopez over Santiago Perez (1:30), 106 -- Regan Todd over Caleb Bachman (0:54), and 145 -- Clay Cambpell over Timoteo Pena (1:22).
In the heavyweight match, Pirate Chase Sale won by fall (2:45) over Kaden Heiniger.
At 132, Caden Meilner won by a 12-3 major decision over Jonathan Bolinger, and at 138, Sackett Chesnik won by a 9-1 major decision over sixth-ranked Clay Yarnell.
Olathe was open at 220, 120 and 126, and both teams were open at 113.
In JV action, Olathe's Brent Gray won at 160 by fall (3:56) over Eagle Carlos Lozano, and at 145, Paonia's Shane Odem won by fall (3:45) over Vincent Price.
Olathe duals Rifle at 6 p.m. Friday and finishes the regular season Saturday at the Norwood Maverick tournament before heading to the 3A Region 1 tournament on Feb. 9. Paonia will close out the regulation season at 6 p.m. Thursday when it duals Delta.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
