In 2A/1A competition, Paonia athletes placed in the top eight in 25 events and scored 128.5 points to place third out of 26 1A-4A teams, and first in the 2A/1A Western Slope/San Juan league. Over the two-day meet the girls set 17 season and personal (PR) records.
In throwing events, senior Sabrina Leighton brought home gold in the shot put with a first-place throw of 35 feet, 9 inches and first-year sophomore Lauryn Kiefer finished seventh with a season-best throw of 29'-1". In discus, Kiever won silver with a throw of 99'-1", and Leighton finished fifth with a throw of 95'-3".
In jumping events, senior Poppy Lightfoot won silver in triple jump with a personal record (PR) mark of 34'-5". Sadie Miller won silver in long jump with a distance of 14'-11"; Lyla Hayutin-Baril placed fourth with a mark of 14'-4.25".
In high jump, Sadie Miller cleared 4'-11" to place fourth, and Sadie Lee placed fifth, clearing a personal-best height of 4'-9".
In sprints, Alexandra Eaton placed fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 13.40 seconds. In the 400m dash, Lightfoot placed fifth with a PR of 1:02.89, and Tawny Roberts set a PR of 1:04.86 to place seventh.
In the 800m run, Roberts placed fourth (2:36.90), Ceylon Carter finished fifth (2:38.57), and Abby LaBounty placed seventh (2:40.04).
Junior Katya Schwieterman set PRs in both distance races, placing fourth in the 3200m with a time of 12:51.8, and sixth in the 1600m (5:56.64).
Eaton placed third in 100m hurdles with a PR of 17.91; Hayutin-Baril finished fifth with a PR of 18.02. In 300m hurdles, Eaton placed third with a time of 50.63, and Sadie Lee placed fourth with a PR of 51.26.
The girls 1600m relay team won silver with a time of 4:23.42, the 400m team won bronze with a time of 54.05. The 3200m team of Abby LaBounty, Ceylon Carter, Katya Schwieterman and Tawny Roberts also won bronze, and the 800m sprint medley team finished fourth.
In their first race as a team, Lauren Kiefer, Shay Glaser, Jaquelin Mora and Paige Fister finished eighth in the 800m relay (2:04.17).
Paonia boys scored 81 points to place fourth in the 2A/1A Western Slope/San Juan league track meet. The team combined for four gold and two silver medals.
In the 400m dash, Harley Ewert was seeded third after Friday's preliminary run, and won the event Saturday with a time of 52.37 seconds. In the 800m, Ewert won with a time of 2:05.00, with Logan Green coming in second with a time of 2:05.16.
Senior Ethan Bartlett won the 1600m with a PR of 4:44.56, with Green placing second with a PR of 4:47.42. In the 3200m, Bartlett won with a personal-best time of 10:26.07, with freshman Alyster Birk finishing sixth with a PR of 11:29.74.
In 300m hurdles, Calvin Reese placed seventh with a time of 45.55.
In relays, the 3200m relay team of Simon Cox, David Lozano, Alejandro Garcia and Calvin Reese won silver with a time of 9:13.90.
The 800m and 1600m relay teams finished competition in fourth, and the 400m team finished seventh.
On May 1, the Cedaredge board of trustees met for a special meeting to appropriate an additional $35,000 from reserves as a loan to the golf course fund.
These funds will be used to purchased a used turf utility vehicle, a spray rig, and to make improvements to the kitchen and dining area of the restaurant.
