Patrick Lee Groom of Carbondale died Feb. 20, 2018, in Hotchkiss. He was 69.
He was born Jan. 31, 1949, to Dean and Wilda Groom. His family moved to Carbondale in 1959. A 1967 graduate of Roaring Fork High School, he started PECO Equipment of Carbondale and later established Groom Excavating.
He enjoyed the outdoors, horses, hunting and flying.
He is survived by his siblings, Mike (Kathi), Tim, Benton (Sandy), Erin and Charlie; the mothers of his children, Karen Holgate and Debby Davis; his children, Jeff (Amy) Groom of Basalt, Steve (Monica) Groom of Carbondale, Sara Groom of Delta and Charles Bullhide Groom of Texas; and eight grandchildren, Drake, Reagan, Laiken, Dylan, Logan, Landan, Dalton and Bowen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Curtis and Gary.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at The Orchard in Carbondale. All are welcome.

During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
